How to Build the Perfect WooCommerce Sales Funnel
Raise your hand if you’re tired of hearing about funnels.
Anyone?
There was a time not too long ago when every other word from your favorite Marketing Guru of the month wasn’t “FUNNEL.” Now before you start thinking this is a “guru bashing” article, let me assure you…it’s not.
It is, however, an article about simplification.
Simplifying your marketing. Simplifying your business.
If you’re like me, the reason you’re probably tired of hearing about “funnels” all the time is because they’re often complicated.
In the world of funnels, most will teach that you have to sell someone this tripwire then take them through 15 different upsells and downsells, then follow up with a 17 part email sequence that sells something else and has another 10 upsell and downsell sequence.
I’m exaggerating a little. But not a lot.
So let’s stop and think for a second…
What is a Sales Funnel?
A funnel is just a process you take someone through that results in a sale.
That’s it!
Did you send a one off email to your list with an offer that sold really well? Nice funnel!
I want you to think about funnels as a process. Don’t get distracted by everyone else telling you it has to be complicated. It doesn’t…and I’ll show you.
Let me show you how to use WooCommerce to build the perfect sales process that’s simple and just works.
How to Build Your WooCommerce Sales Funnel
If you think of funnels as a process designed to sell…what’s our goal?
Yep. Sell stuff.
So let’s break down the process you need to focus on to sell more stuff.
STEP 1: Create the Perfect WooCommerce Checkout Page
Your checkout page needs to have 4 components at all times if you want to make more sales.
- Product Image – Always show the image of the product your customer is buying
- Testimonial – Include a testimonial from a previous customer that either communicates proof or trust. More on how to get these testimonials here.
- Bullet Points – These are often overlooked but here’s why they’re important. You will recap your promise and the end result your customer will receive after purchasing using short, succinct bullet points. There are entire courses on how to write nothing but bullet points. They work.
- Order Bump – An Order Bump offers another product that can be purchased directly on the checkout page. It’s like the pack of gum when you’re checking out at the grocery store. You see that yellow box below? That’s an order bump.
Order Bumps come standard for WooCommerce Checkout pages with Handsome Checkout.
STEP 2: Use One Click Upsells for WooCommerce to Increase Your Average Order Value
Adding One Click Upsells for WooCommerce to your sales funnel will do more for your sales than anything else. If you doubt that last sentence, don’t.
One of the great truths of marketing is this:
It’s always easier to sell to an existing customer than acquire a new one.
My mentor Brian Kurtz taught me this. The guy built a $150 million business so I kind of believe him.
Now…you may be wondering what to offer as an upsell. Maybe you don’t have a lot of products.
Here’s the simplest option that will also, in all likelihood, be the highest converting one too.
Sell more of the same thing.
Just sell the same product they just bought at a slight discount. It won’t work for every single product (like courses) but it will work for most.
I talk about how to craft your Perfect Upsell for WooCommerce here.
STEP 3: Follow Up
You’d be surprised how many businesses view the sale as the end of the road.
They move on to finding the next lead instead of getting to know the person who just spent money with them.
Here’s another truth from Brian…
Customers refund transactions but they don’t refund relationships
After your customer buys something, follow up and let them know how else you can help them. Ask how their experience with your business was.
Help them.
You want to think in terms of Lifetime Customer Value (LTV). And you want to build in follow up emails, phone calls and direct mail into your sales process…if you want a higher LTV.
