It’s not what you think.
Most people will tell you to generate more leads, then convert those leads into customers. And that’s not bad advice.
In fact, if you’re not generating leads that’s something you want to fix. But we can talk about that another time.
No, today we want to focus on the FASTEST way to increase revenue. While lead generation and conversion is important…it’s not fast.

Adding Upsell Products to Your WooCommerce Store is an Art and a Science
There are a few things you need to know before you go run out and immediately start adding upsell products to your WooCommerce store.
The first step you need to take is to put yourself in your customer’s position. An upsell is a chance to excite your customer with a special one time offer.
Get it right and you’ll see the positive results almost overnight. Get it wrong and you could do some damage to your credibility.
To help you, I’ve put together a few tips that will help you avoid some of the common mistakes people make when offering upsells.
How do I know? Because I learned the hard way
Trust me…you want the easy way!
And one other thing to note, I’m going to focus on post purchase upsells. These are upsells that come AFTER your customer makes a purchase. In my experience, these are the types of upsells that make the greatest impact because your customer has already made a purchase. They’ve actually become a customer!
So it’s the perfect time to offer a discount or some other type of one time offer.
5 Easy Tips to Upsell Products on WooCommerce
- Confirm your customer’s previous order.
Your first step is to confirm your customer’s previous order. You want to make sure your customer understands that the purchase they just made did go through. After all, they were expecting to see the “thank you” page. - Give a Reason Why
You ALWAYS want to tell your customer WHY they are seeing your post purchase upsell. If you’re offering a discount or special one time offer they cant find anywhere else, tell them why. Common “reasons why” are:– Save on shipping
– Buyer is a new customer
– You have a product that compliments what they just bought - Give a Reason to Act NOW
When you make a “one time offer” there is no maybe. It is either YES or NO. If your buyer wants the special one time offer, they must act now. - Your Upsell Product Needs to Stand Alone
Every Upsell product you use must be able to exist as its own product. Let me explain. You don’t want to sell a product that is only useful if you buy the upsell with it. This would be an incredibly negative experience. It’s like buying a car and then being offered the engine as an upsell. Not good. So make sure whatever you’re using as your upsell can stand on its own. - Make it One Click
The most powerful tool for your WooCommerce store is to reduce the friction in your funnel by making your upsells one click upsells. This means your customer doesn’t have to re-enter their credit card. They simply review your offer then choose if they want to buy or not.
If you want to take a little deeper dive into these tips, they’re also covered in our Upsell Checklist.
